The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) was founded in 1997 and issued the first Guidelines for Sustainability Reports in 1999. These guidelines developed to a highly estimated international standard for the comprehensive reporting of all aspects of a company´s sustainable performance (www.globalreporting.org).
An advanced version was released in 2002, and 2006 the "third generation", named „G3 Guidelines“, was published. Several „Sector Supplements“ with sector specific indicators accomplish the G3 Guidelines. The Electric Utility Sector Supplement, EUSS, has been introduced in 2009 and has to be applied from 2010 on.
